Size is a tough thing to show in a photo, believe it or not. When I saw the early morning summer sun popping over this hill in Nevada’s Valley of Fire and Denise was already dressed and finished with her hair and makeup, I grabbed a 300mm lens and asked her to go to the crest of the hill and do some posing. The pale haze muted the colors just enough to create the brilliant orange light. Several simple rules of thumb here : You have to get your subject to extend, and make her body a graphic shape. Bigger is better here in terms of lens. The bigger the lens, the more magnification and compression you get, and the subject will be more impressive. The low camera angle is important too. Remember to think like a comic book : low angle, look up! Turn your subject into a superhero!
